What ive noticed with some Entrecard users.

Over the past month or so ive paid a lot more attention to what goes on in Entrecard, Here are just a few of my thoughts about it. Obviously some people will agree with me and many will disagree.

About a month ago Entrecard changed its pricing structure, I think many of us were against this change (including me) but after giving it some thought, I thought why not see how it goes, After all the new pricing had settled it became clear that the new structure was perfect, So why are people still complaining about it in the forums? Why are there still so many new suggestions about what it should be and how it should be run? Get over it, Its not going to change so deal with it. Its far better than what we had before.

Ive also noticed that there seem to be many more people declining advert requests and stating (Not Relevant) Whats all that about? I can almost guarantee that the top 2000 blogs on entrecard (if not more) will accept all ads, Not because of the EC received (because that is very little) but because the top sites want to give everybody more exposure. So give everyone a break. There is one category in particular that seem to only accept from the same category. (First person to leave a comment and guess that category correct will receive 250ec). There also seems to be more and more declining with the reason being (You didn't drop on my site first) Come on people - get real, An excuse like that is just pathetic, It costs you alot more in the long run.

The last thing that i have to say at the moment is (Stop the discrimination) We are all here for the same reasons. There is no need for a category by country, I read a suggestion in the forum the other day stating this.

  1. Well, I have to admit I am not 100% happy about the pricing structure although I don't complaint anymore. It's just that it got quite expensive to advertise. And ad which has cost me 4EC before is now minimum 32EC and the jump in the higher pricing regions I still consider too much.

I don't know which is the category only accepting ads from their category, probably not the Pets one :) But would be interesting to know.

I do accept ads from any category but I do filter also. I don't like to link to blogs which have almost no content and are just there to collect ECs or money through clicks and impressions. Also if it doesn't fit at all with my content and readership, I will decline it as this would also not make sense for the advertiser.

  2. Okay, so I'm new on Entrecard. I don't really know which people seem to approve ads only in their own category... but I'll take a stab at it: Cooking and Dining

Off to drop some cards. :-)

  3. took me awhile to get used to the new pricing but I was willing to see how it worked out and so far it's ok - you can still find some great deals out there. Sure no more dozens of 2 credit ads but so what.

I accept all ads (unless it's obviously just a spam blog)- my first day with entrecard I turned down a few blogs I didn't think were suitable for mine but after that once I got the hang of it I realized I wanted to accept all ads

I'm going to guess religion and spirituality category - I got turned down by a few

but I bet it's a category that isn't all that obvious can't wait to find out which one

mmmm rethinking the question, if the answer is based on turning down your ads - I wonder if it's the women's interest

  4. let me guess gaming????
Even if it got expensive to advertise its easier for all the new people who joined to get more credits for advertisements.

And it is also easier to increase the cost of advertising in your widget.Earlier one needed more drops but now all you had to do was participate well in entrecard

  5. I'm new to EC, came after the pricing change. So I can't speak for that. I'm in the health category, and I tend to decline if the site isn't relevant.

  6. Haven't a clue about which category declines the adds, but I totally agree with you. We're all in this together and it shouldn't matter who wants to advertise on your site, the more exposure the better. I don't think I've ever turned down an add request.

  7. The one thing that I have noticed that you may not have picked up on yet are the growing number of Entrecard users that not only are refusing adverts but seem happy with JUST ADVERTISING their own blog on their own site. Why bother to join a blogging community if they are not prepared to fully join in with the rest of us?

  8. Could the category you speak of be Business Ops?

  9. Ok i ma new of this entrecard thing but for myself i am going to say all advertisers are approve in my site not included if the site is porn or something bad and about the pricing no comments about that i did not complain.

  10. @rpm_millionaire Its not business ops.

  11. @Kloggers. I agree with the amount of users here on Entrecard now and there will be some that are happy with there own widget on there site, But it could also mean that knowbody's advertising on there site because of a very low click rating due to inactive or low exposure.

  12. @Lady rose. One would think it would be Womens interest but no, In actual fact, Ive never been turned down for an ad request on womens interests. Thanks for that though, It gave me a laugh.

  13. @shadowrule. Congratulations, The 250 EC will be in your account shortly.
Ive never had an ad request accepted by the Gaming category but many rejected because (Not relevant).
What is it more relevant too?

  14. I like Entrecard and to be honest the pricing structure doesn't bother me at all!

My blog advertising price goes from high to low on a daily basis! I use Entrecard in the manner in which it was created... To surf blogs and promote mine at the same time, comment if I like them and move on if I don't!

I accept ads from all categories as we should all help each other. It seems that some Entrecard users only drop and run anyway so it doesn't matter what blog is being advertised!

Hmm with regards to the category that declines most users... I think it may be Technology...

Well done on the blog by the way, I should be working but I am reading here instead! When I miss my deadline I am blaming you! :D

  15. I should have read all of the comments before posting my own! Too late again!

    Oh well! :D

    Slow off the mark Sarah!!

  16. I suspect I know which category you're talking about, if it's the same one you mentioned in the forums? - a particular nationality?

I've been turned down as not relevant a few times myself. One of them was a gaming blog, another a cute animals one.

I'm having difficulty with advertising though because I just don't have the time to drop 300 cards a day, so never have enough credits to advertise on any of the big blogs.

  17. @Sarah. Your more than welcome to blame me because if you don't, Somebody else will.

  18. Great post, Dave...Did you see my post today on the issue of bloggers that drop and run and the bloggers that complain about them? I gave a lot of good constructive advice as to how to get people stay. I you read the post, I would really value your comments!

Also, when can I expect that guest blog post on the Remarkables?

    Cheers, Mate!

  19. You are so right. I am amused at when some of my requests are rejected because of "design clash." What is THAT about?

I'm sure the people who don't appreciate Entrecard will move on soon so the rest of us can fully enjoy it. Advertising aside, I have discovered some really cool blogs/sites.

  20. Even though the 250 ec has been given out, I'll take it a step further...

it's the WoW (world of warcraft) gaming sites. They're either inbred (since they only want to advertise their own site or another WoW site) or they're all run by the same guy.

Either way, they've (he/she) has turned me down every time i've tried to hit one of those sites.

Why are they even on EC if they're not going to advertise or accept ads??

    :rant off:

  21. I was against it at first too - it's worked itself out though. The only thing is that I hesitate to accept ads that will cost the advertiser 1024 ec or more - my blog just isn't worth it... I've been declined by mostly gaming and tech sites, so I'm sure you're right there!

  22. I am quite happy with the new pricing structure on Ec and have never refused an Ad and never will unless the site is offensive. I get a few rejections though but then these people are not likely to be added to my daily drops list are they. It is all about networking and interacting with other bloggers surely. My guess would be the books category for the biggest Ad rejecters.

  23. A few points : -

    1) I agree the new pricing structure is better .
    2) you might be refering to me about identifying by country - but I wasn't suggesting limiting people's card dropping by country, just that for some purposes it would be useful to know where people were based .
3)I definitely agree that ads should not be rejected for petty reasons - you're quite right, we all do this for a common purpose .

  24. @Caledonian Jim, I'm not sure if it was your post in the forum or not. Its a known fact here on EC that ad requests are being turned down because they only want to accept ads from a specific country. This has happened to me 3 times so far, Twice from one country and once from another.

  25. With the old pricing system, I would only accept ads from personal or humor blogs. With the new pricing system I accept all ads, LOL.

After a week or so, I noticed that 1)My price really hasn't changed that drastically and 2) I ALWAYS have ads lined up.

I have no complaints about the new system anymore. :-)
    ReplyDelete
  26. Well said. I opposed the new pricing strategy at first, but like you, have found it to be a winner. I decline about 10% of advert requests, usually because of content or design conflicts.

  27. I don't really understand the big deal and am happy with entrecard. It brings me alot of traffic and I have found some great blogs that I enjoy reading from entrecard. great post.

  28. I used to decline adverts. not anymore. I accept all blogs =)

  29. Totally disagree. There is no common way to use the system; everyone's different. I'm not using the system to earn money, for example, but a lot of ECers are. I'm using it to promote me and entertain myself and others. I don't have multiple accounts, I don't max out drops every day, I don't post money-making tips, I don't do paid posts.

I do make my ad approval requirements quite clear on my EC details page. I will quite happily decline adverts for non-relevant sites and I will decline if the person hasn't visited my site because, in the first instance, I do actually care about the general visitors to my site and want to protect them from irrelevant and wasteful clicking, and, in the second case, it shows disrespect to say "ooh, advertise me but, by the way, I've no idea what your site's about, what's on it, and can't be bothered to click through and find out." I've even just declined an ad request because I don't think the current price will be justified in returned traffic and don't want that user to waste his credits.

To claim we're all using EC for the same goal and should all approve anyone who requests an ad just because you might is wrong and smacks of sour grapes.

  30. Too late but I would have guessed gaming because I have just been turned down by one of them. I don't turn anyone down. Although when I first started I did turn one down because I couldn't get their link to work and I wasn't really sure what I was doing. I do apologise to that person and hopefully they will try again. The pricing doesn't bother me because I joined just before it changed so I didn't really get used to the old way.
    ReplyDelete
  31. Haha...I know which category that is. It's funny, how they reject, and yet they try to advertise in other category.
    ReplyDelete
  32. I really still don't care for the new system. I felt the other way my hard work of spending hours dropping cards paid off more, the new way I don't feel it does. Granted, I have not been back to dropping 300 cards daily since shortly after the change when I moved, but I was not seeing the same benefits as before so I think that was part of what killed my motivation.

I totally agree with the gaming catagory though! I have found that too! I honestly don't get it, but that's their choice I guess and I will just give my hard earned EC's to somoene else!

  33. I have had quite a few turned down in Women Interests and it was a beauty blog, now if that isn't a woman interest then I don't know what is.
    ReplyDelete
  34. I totally agree with you about the "not relevant" snobbery that seems to inhabit some of the sites. To me, they are losing out on some unrelated networking opportunties by turning anyone down. So what if your website is not on the same topic? You will get more readers and people to visit your site if you diversify the kind of sites you allow to buy space on your site. And the card is just an advertisement anyway. It's not like you are endorsing their website. I think that's where this cherry-picking mentality comes from...people think if you have someone's card on your website, it means you are endorsing their content. Ah well. I like Entrecard and have met a lot of great people because I didn't stick to my own category or area of interest. But that's just me.

  35. re: Dropping first. I've setup EntreCards on a couple of new sites and been deluged with ads in the first few minutes from people just wanting a cheap ad. They didn't take the time to look at my site to see if it was a good fit first. Why on earth would you want to advertise, for example, a knitting site on a financial blog? I have to respectfully disagree with you - a BIG part of why I joined EntreCard in the first place was for the community aspect and a BIG part of that is visiting other people's sites and, yes, leaving a card. Leaving a card was, to me, the whole point of the thing.

Not bothering to visit a site and drop a card reminds me of the scene in Monty Python's The Meaning of Life where John Cleese asks the students for an example of foreplay and one of them pops up with something pretty advanced to which Cleese responds with "Give her a kiss, boy!" Don't go leaping straight for the advertise button like a bull at the gate - Drop a card, boy!

  36. @Tom Hanna, I agree with some that you said but i honestly have to disagree with dropping before buying an ad, It is possible that the people buying the ad has already dropped the 300 max for the day,Some people will buy as many as possible while they are cheap and dropping on all of them would take too long. When i started with Entrecard i accepted all ads whether they dropped or not, I don't see the point in turning them down, Your not doing yourself a favor by turning them down. Remember that their are approval stats and i bet a lot of people look at those before deciding whether to buy an ad on a particular site or not.
